Being the best version of you

16 Nov

Waiting for New Years to change the way you live your life means missing out on living time to the full, so I’m starting from today. My betterment scheme includes both appearance and emotional-based changes, to make me feel better about who I am. Rather than trying to be a poor imitation of someone I’m not, I’m going to be the best version I possibly can be of myself.

Self-help is a huge sector in the book industry recently, but I think that the best way to improve your life is to identify what you don’t like and change it, no matter what title or label you give this change. I think this advice cheat-sheet could help anyone improve themselves and the way they feel about themselves. Or course, some things (like “don’t be show-offy”) will vary for each person. You might want to replace that with “be more outgoing”. Anyway, print this (or your own list) out, cut it out, and stick it somewhere you’ll see it everyday. For more subtle reminders, since I don’t want everyone seeing my list for self improvement in my school homework journal for example, take a word from each sentence and write them everywhere to trigger your memory while not letting everyone in on the secret.

  • Smile more often, and bring happiness into your life and other’s lives straight away.
  • Be nicer, kinder and softer, and discard the brash-side you use to hide your insecurities.
  • Don’t be patronising or show-offy, avoid trying to look cool.
  • Give everyone a chance, be sweet rather than sour.
  • Make an effort with clothes and hair, always feel good about how you look.
  • Avoid procrastination and keep your deadlines.
  • Practise any commitments you’ve taken up, such as instruments or sports.
  • Actively be in a good mood most of the time.
  • Try and ignore insecurities and make yourself act quietly confident until you feel it naturally.
  • Eat lots of fruit and veg.
  • Do a little exercise every night to help you sleep.
  • Sleep for eight hours!

This is my to-do list. I’ll check back here to tell you all how I’m getting along with the whole self-improvement thing.

The Chill Out Cube

15 Nov

To channel my inner creativity, I decided to organise some of my instagram photos into cool collages. On my travels across the internet, I found this gem called Printsgram which lets you create sheets of stickers, collages, or even *gasp* cubes of your photos!

Anyway, as a little treat to all you avid readers, here’s a little bit of coolness that can add to the serenity of your room, with lots of pretty landscape photographs. Just click on the picture below to download the PDF file and print it off.

Art College Outfit

14 Nov

I’m going to an art college open day in December next month with a friend of mine, and I’m trying to pick out an outfit to wear. Here’s some inspiration from Pinterest; even though I don’t own the exact clothes, I own some/can get some that invoke the style of the outfits here. Which is your favourite? Also, if you’ve found something beautiful, please leave it in a comment!

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries

12 Nov

I posted recently about YouTube vloggers that I really enjoy, but I didn’t put in this one, because it’s very different.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries are a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice, and they are magnificently produced. At first, I must admit, I was a little apprehensive as I usually don’t like “modern versions” of books or films I love. However, this was happily the exception. The LBD is fantastically written, acted, shot and edited, super-professionally, while still keeping the one-girl-and-a-webcam feel even though there’s a whole production team backstage. The plot is perfectly paced, and the casting for the roles is superb. Hmm, it’s like I’m playing who-can-fit-the-most-superlatives-into-a-paragraph game, so I’d better shut up. Here’s the very first episode for you viewing.

Also as a side note to those who are ardent fans, one word: DARCY! ❤

Another great buy: SHOOOOES!!!

11 Nov

Again, apologies for the bad quality of the image, my proper camera is still off the road. I couldn’t wait to post this picture though. These were from Penneys (surprise, surprise) and they were €23. They’re beige (faux) suede, and they substitute perfectly for my brown leather boots, dressing up a winter outfit for a party or evening time. I also love the lining, which is some sort of weird retro print on a royal blue background. The heel is suede too, and the sole is about 5mm thick, meaning the shoes can be stained easily in damp weather. Mine haven’t been yet, but I have worn them only in dry weather, and I’ve also sprayed them with suede protection… which I’m not sure works on fake suede, but I wasn’t taking any chances.
